God vs. Dagon

Today, I need patience.
I know there is a pattern.  I know God is trying to show me something.
And it's obvious to me that I'm still not getting it...

"So cradle your head in your hands and breathe, just breathe."

Short Bible story that I find pretty awesome:
"They carried the Ark of God into the temple of Dagon and placed it beside an idol of Dagon.  But when the citizens of Ashdod went to see it the next morning, Dagon had fallen with his face to the ground in front of the Ark of the Lord!  So they took Dagon and put him in his place again.  But the next morning the same thing happened - Dagon had fallen face down before the Ark of the Lord again.  This time his head and hands had broken off and were lying in the doorway.  Only the trunk of his body was left intact."
~I Samuel 5:2-4

Ha, I really love it!! :)

I think God is the same way when we put Him next to any idol in our hearts.  He will try to gently show us the truth and put things back in proper balance, but if we continue to prop up our idols and try to put them on level with Him, He will make sure it is destroyed forever.  That is so powerful, and I think that is at least a portion of what God is pounding through my head lately.  That "No other gods before Me" is a command, not a polite suggestion.

I've been resistant and moronic sometimes, but all the pain is there for a reason, and I know that He hasn't given up on me!  "And I am certain that God, who began the good work within me, will continue His work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns!" (Phil. 1:6)
