A Million Little Thoughts...

  • First things first - Happy 1st Anniversary to Josh & Rach today! =)  Below is a collage of wedding pics + two collages of my favorite pics over the past year.  *You can click on the picture to enlarge it.

  • Next, meet Ruby, my new red Lexus SUV.  Yay!
  • Weirdest thing ever... it's a used car, and they accidentally left the CDs of the woman who had it before me in there (it's a 6-disk CD thing).  The first 3 are French CDs (to learn to the language).  I assumed they were mine at first since I have a similar set of CDs.  But the next 3 are mix CDs (labeled "Jana's Mix 08") - including some great songs from Adele's 1st CD and others I didn't already have, so that was bizarre but exciting. lol
  • I believe finding those CDs is a sign that I am destined to learn to speak French and spend a good deal of time in Paris! ;-)
  • K-Lamb's wedding shower this weekend was a lot of fun!

  • I FINALLY heard back from the doctor this morning, and my CT scan results were normal!! :)  So now, thanks to the car wreck and the CT scan, I have official confirmation that my blood labs are good - no diabetes or thyroid issues, all is well with my internal organs, and there are no major issues with my head (physically speaking - lol).
  • In The Road Less Traveled (by M. Scott Peck), he talks a lot about how laziness is our #1 problem - not wanting to put forth the effort required for genuine love, which he defines as "the will to extend one's self for the purpose of nurturing one's own or another's spiritual growth."  (He means mental, emotional, and spiritual growth there.)
  • I can't even begin to describe how much I adore this definition and how much it has helped me to see things more clearly.  Genuine love is not effortless - it requires work and courage and commitment to growth.  And love is not dependence, so those who foster dependence rather than growth - no matter how nurturing they may appear to be - are not genuinely loving the other person.
  • The author is extremely intelligent and relatable, but is sadly deceived in his views on God - so close and yet so far from the truth.  For that reason, I'm not sure I can totally recommend the book.  But everything he has to say about his work with patients in therapy (he's a psychiatrist) was fantastic for me to read.  And the half-truths on God are easy to filter through if you have the right Biblical foundation.
  • He has a lot to say about facing things directly and taking responsibility, and he says "the tendency to avoid problems and the emotional suffering inherent in them is the primary basis of all human mental illness."  That the things we use to try to stop legitimate suffering ultimately become more painful than the suffering they were designed to avoid... SO true!
  • All that to say, I don't want to let laziness stop me from personal growth, so as much as the lazy part of me wants to find a sneaky way out, the healthier part of me says bring on the marathon training and healthy eating! :)
  • I'm loving this song lately...
  • I think that might be it for today!
