Top Ten TOZER Tribute Tuesday!

How's that for alliteration!?  ;-)

I bought this one based on the high recommendation of John Eldredge (who else?), and it's truly one of the best and most transformational (if that's a word) books I've ever read... soooo much underlining and starring and marking up different sections in my copy -- it's out of control!  The book is actually fairly short, but it took me a while to get through because it requires 100% focus as you read...  It is full of deep, convicting truth and often written in KJV-style language.  Tozer's heart was so genuine and fully devoted to exalting God -- and his words inspire that same level of passion and commitment in those who read them!!
It is ten chapters long, so I'm going to attempt to narrow it down and pick my favorite quote from each chapter for this post:
1.  "Right now we are in an age of religious complexity.  The simplicity which is in Christ is rarely found among us. In its stead are programs, methods, organizations, and a world of nervous activities which occupy time and attention but can never satisfy the longing of the heart. The shallowness of our inner experience, the hollowness of our worship, and that servile imitation of the world which marks our promotional methods all testify that we, in this day, know God only imperfectly, and the peace of God scarcely at all."

2. "Everything is safe which we commit to Him, and nothing is safe which is not so committed."

3.  "I am addressing the thirsting souls who are determined to follow God, and I know they will not turn back because the way leads temporarily through the blackened hills.  The urge of God within them will assure their continuing pursuit... the cross if rough and it is deadly, but it is effective."

4. "Open my eyes that I may see... Make heaven more real to me than any earthly thing has ever been. Amen"

5. "It will require a determined heart and more than a little courage to wrench ourselves loose from the grip of our times and return to Biblical ways. But it can be done."

6. "The Word of God is quick and powerful.  In the beginning, He spoke to nothing, and it became something. Chaos heard it and became order; darkness heard it and became light... The Word of God affects the hearts of all men as light in the soul... I think a new world will arise out of the religious mists when we approach our Bible with the idea that it is not only a book which was once spoken, but a book which is now speaking."

7.  "Has it ever occurred to you that one hundred pianos all tuned to the same fork are automatically tuned to each other?  ...One hundred worshipers meeting together, each one looking away to Christ, are in heart nearer to each other than they could possibly be were they to become 'unity' conscious and turn their eyes away from God to strive for closer fellowship. Social religion is perfected when private religion is purified."

8.  "The whole course of life is upset by failure to put God where He belongs. We exalt ourselves instead of God, and the curse follows."

9. "The meek man cares not at all who is greater than he, for he has long ago decided that the esteem of the world is not worth the effort... He knows well that the world will never see him as God sees him, and he has stopped caring. He rests perfectly content to allow God to place His own values."

10.  "It is not what a man does that determines whether his work is sacred or secular; it is why he does it. The motive is everything. Let a man sanctify the Lord God in his heart and he can thereafter do no common act. All he does is good and acceptable to God through Jesus Christ."

#6, 7, and 9 are my favorites here. =)
(It was hard to narrow because it's hard to find quotes that stand alone without a full explanation and background.  So I recommend reading the actual book - it's fantastic and will encourage you to press in and move forward with God!!)
