Monday Musings

Happy Monday, friends!  I came down with a bad cold over the weekend, and I'm feeling a bit worn down.  I'm planning to take a bath and go to bed early tonight, and I'm already looking forward to that!

Back in the day, part of our morning routine was that Dad would set out the Comics section of The Daily Oklahoman newspaper for me and Rach to read as we ate our cereal (while he would read the news and sports and such). ❤ I remember one of the Cathy comics was about being sick with a cold:  At the top, it listed the year and said, "Cold Treatment: ____,"  starting out with simple "Chicken Soup and Rest."  As the years progressed, the list of treatments grew longer and longer (adding in vitamins, medications, home remedies, essential oils, etc.), then at the bottom of every panel, it said, "Cold Duration: Two Weeks."

Not sure why that one stuck in my memory, but I thought about it this morning and laughed.  In the end, chicken soup and rest are still a solid choice, and either way, you have to wait it out and trust that you'll feel better soon enough.

Here are a few pictures from my weekend, starting with my lovely new pink metallic globe! =)
Between seminar sessions, I had lunch with Marilyn and some OK County reporters on Saturday, then we stopped by HomeGoods, where I found this.  (Side note: I have never been and will never be big on shopping, nor do I collect anything because I strongly prefer simplicity and order to the chaos and clutter... but if I did collect something, it would be globes.  Random, yes, but I'm always drawn to them when I see them in a store... I think they're pretty and interesting, and I like the reminder that it's a really big world and God knows every person in it.)  I couldn't pass up buying this one since it matches so well with my decor!

I drove back to Tulsa on Saturday night for Steve's surprise party at Chuy's. Sarah and Steve arrived over 45 minutes later, and I barely knew anyone else there, so I was thankful Nancy and her Aunt Karen were sitting across from me.  ...This Merritt's cake and the fresh strawberry cake by Nancy were both delish!

Sunday morning, I woke up bright and early to drive back to MWC for Jace's baptism!!  It has been over a year since he got saved, so this was a long-awaited event, and I'm glad I got to be there for it! ❤

After that, we went to Bradford Village to see Grandad and Babah.  He is able to move his left leg better these days, so hopefully that will continue to improve!  Jace played dominoes with him while I helped Kyndal work on a puzzle, then we left when Grandad got tired.

My cousin posted this quote, and I loved it, so I'm throwing it in here.

...A couple friends have asked about my book lately, a project which has been stalled for a bit.  I've been thinking about it, but have not officially started back up yet.  I recently went through and deleted over half of my prior blog posts, and going through them all made me very aware of how my thoughts have shifted and changed over the past decade.

Fabs Harford wrote about that recently (full post HERE), and I identify with her thoughts:

"Putting words out into the world is a risky business. Minds change and grow, and words you once wrote become obsolete... If there is any gift time and maturity gives us it’s the humble awareness of how very wrong we can be. How confidently and faithfully we can speak or participate in the very thing that we will one day devote our lives to demolishing.  And knowing that makes it hard to share words.  Especially the written kind. I don’t know the solution, except to tell you in all humility – I’m a work in progress.  And these days the only thing I’m really sure of is steadfast love of the Lord."
