Mother's Day Weekend 2020

This Sunday was Mother's Day, and I got to spend the weekend with my wonderful Mom and family!  I'm thankful for her love, support, and strength... and for all our great talks and good memories together!! ❤

The weekend started off with a second trip to AG&M to look at granite on Saturday morning.  Jace found a ladybug and we passed it back and forth on our hands... brought back memories of rescuing ladybugs drowning in our pool... ladybugs and roly polys remain the only bugs I find cute enough to touch!!

The granite slab on the top left will be in my kitchen someday soon... Cloudy/Viscon White for the win!  Mom and I made several collages to try to help us pick a backsplash.  I'm a fan of this look, but charcoal gray arabesque tiles are elusive and cannot be found anywhere we've looked thus far.  We'll see what happens and what I end up with there - no final decisions have been made yet.

David was on a long road trip on Saturday and asked if I could go let the girlfranz out.  Dad joined me, and it was super fun to see their fluffity, affectionate selves again!!

The kids swam for a tiny minute, but the water was freezing, so they got out.  Mom and Dad put down the rugs (for a safe walkway that isn't crazy slick when wet), and Kyndal decided we needed to make it a fashion show runway, so she and I took turns with that sassy walk game, followed by another round doing "tricks" (mine were line dancing moves while hers were far more acrobatic and impressive). lol

I joined Dad and the kids for a 2-mile walk in the park.  It was super fun and entertaining with them!  Kyndal held my hand 90% of the time (when she wasn't collecting sticks or I wasn't taking photos).  It was a really nice day out, and it's already a fun memory! =)

Here's something you don't expect to see as summer's approaching! lol  These are the mascots for the snowcone stand... I'm sure they were hot in those costumes!!

*A quick side note on the above pics:  This was such a fun day with my niece and nephew and Dad, and I felt happy and loved and confident and healthy!  I know that I am overweight right now, and I want to develop healthier habits for the sake of my future health, but I'm incredibly thankful that I'm not wallowing in shame or insecurity about that.  If the water wasn't freezing, I would happily throw on a swimsuit and jump in the pool, with or without a crowd!  And when I'm a size 10 or 12 again and I look back at memories like this, I don't ever want to belittle myself or focus more on my appearance than the heart of the photo or memory.  I don't ever want to lie to myself and say that I was super miserable when I was overweight, because I am really, really not.  I'm smart enough to know there will be emotional ups and downs no matter what size clothing I am wearing.  And I have a pretty fantastic life full of wonderful relationships and a lot of joy right now!  For the most part, any shame or self-consciousness I feel about my weight or single status comes from the insecure comments and incessant weight-related talk or self-righteous pity for singles that I hear from others, so I'm working hard to improve on not letting anyone else's insecurity affect my personal confidence level or self-worth, because in the end, I really like who I am, and the rest is between me and God!!  That is all.

Anyway, back to the weekend. After our walk, Dad and I took the kids to CVS to pick out some Mother's Day cards and presents.  It was funny watching them argue over what to get and when to give it to her.  They talked about waiting for Sunday, but definitely both caved and gave her her cards and gifts about 5 seconds after she walked in to pick them up!

Sunday morning, we had lunch at Ted's... (seems appropriate that my last dine-in restaurant meal was Ted's in Tulsa Hills with Sarah Elizabeth on Saint Patrick's Day, and my first one back after they reopened was Ted's in MWC with the fam on Mother's Day).  Mom and I taped some boxes and put in new Glade scent things around her house, then I left around 4 to head back and start packing up my kitchen.... a far more daunting/overwhelming task than I'd imagined now that there's no place left to put things!! I made it work eventually, but it took longer than I'd hoped!

Speaking of things that take longer than you hope... WHAT ON EARTH WERE WE THINKING when we painted turquoise over the yellow tape on my front door?  A long time ago, we put yellow tape across it then put a yellow ribbon bow in the center.  It was cute!  Then we moved to plain turquoise, but apparently the tape was hard to pull off, so we just painted over it and assumed it would stay flat!??  Spoiler alert - it didn't - the cold weather or the hot sun cause the tape to bubble up.  I don't have a distinct memory of painting over that, but I'll definitely remember this... after trying sandpaper, fingernails, putty knife, a blowdryer to loosen the glue of the tape and make it bubble up more... I worked on this while listening through two full movies as background noise (Richie Rich and The Patriot, in case you were wondering) and at least half the tape is still very stuck there.  Most of it comes off by the millimeter in little flakes (see bottom right pic).  I definitely stopped to Google the cost of new doors after a couple hours of this.  When it got to a point where there were no more bubbles to grab, I gave up and painted over it again. lol  I'll remove what I can little by little when it bubbles up with super hot or cold weather... but for now, I need a door that at least looks uniform in color! Anyway, a friendly note to anyone thinking there's no harm in painting over tape: DON'T DO IT!! lol

I got my new "Messy Bit*h" BooCrew headband, and their shipping label made me laugh!

To my knowledge, this is my last week of this super-relaxed work schedule (working 9:30-noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays only).  It's been nice while it lasted!  Yesterday, after a Target run for her to pick out curtains, I got to have lunch with Sarah Elizabeth and finally have time for a real chat and catching up on life at her place!!  (We got Pei Wei to go and ate in the car, but they were out of plastic silverware so we had to use chopsticks, which was pretty interesting! lol)

She and Steve (and sometimes Chet) have been doing a ton of work on their yard lately, and it's paying off!!  There are 17 different plants and flowers in the front yard, and it all looks so great!!  I also think the solar lights look really fun and celebratory at night! =)

Mmkay, that's all I've got for now!
Hope you had a lovely weekend and have a fantastic week ahead!! =)
