On Friday (November 1st), Steve and Sarah signed the contract to close on their new home in Sand Springs - YAY!!
I joined them to document the closing ceremonies, and I was excited when the woman with the mountain of paperwork asked if we wanted some photo props! lol #yesplease #always Debbie (the lending officer) brought the "It's so good to be home" frame as a gift for Steve and Sarah. =)
I also brought donuts, which was extra appropriate since I was driving on my stupid donut tire that morning. lol I got a random assortment, and Steve immediately went for the pink one with sprinkles, which made Sarah laugh! As he put it, "Sprinkles are for winners!" lol Chettles seemed to agree.

On the left, a pic with Chet and Debbie and a pic of them signing and initialing all the paperwork... on the right, the card and housewarming gift from me and the Wilson fam! =)
This = the back of the card... my apologies to Lauralai Allison. lol
Whilst I was watching Kyndal Faith in CHA's Homecoming, they were busy cleaning their new house and getting things ready Friday night. Then Saturday was moving day! (After spending an hour and a half hanging out at Discount Tire and getting my tire replaced), I met them at their apartment to help load the last third of their stuff into the U-Haul! (*The moving company they hired advised Sarah to switch her booking from 6 hours to 3 hours, saying she could always add on more time if needed. She took their advice, then when they needed more time, they were told that the movers were booked the rest of that day and could not help them. Special.) So Steve, Sarah, Nancy and I formed an assembly line of sorts carting several boxes, everything from their porch, the table and chairs, and the contents of their entire closet down three flights of stairs and into a U-Haul! It seemed overwhelming at first, but it wasn't so bad once we got going. Thankfully, the movers had already gotten the big furniture items and boxes full of books!! Toward the end, we started rolling some stuff down the staircases, which made me laugh!
Sarah made a call and was able to extend the time with the U-Haul another hour, which was just enough to work for us! Steve drove the U-Haul (see pic above), Nancy drove her car, and Sarah rode with me to the new house... which I really love! I was excited to see it in person, and I think they'll be so happy there once they get unpacked and settled in! Moving is always stressful work, but it'll all be worth it for them to have more room and a nice backyard for Loki! Anyway, we picked up lunch at Cheezie's Pizza then met the others there (David was at the house to help out, too), then we unloaded everything from the U-Haul into the garage in record time!
The most memorable part of the day for me went as follows: It was chaotic as we were all unloading the boxes into the garage trying to make the U-Haul deadline, grabbing a slice of pizza or calzone here and there as we moved in and out. The smell of pizza was strong, but Steve (thankfully) noticed another fragrance...
Steve: "Is something burning?"
The minute he said that, Sarah smelled it too. My nose was stuffy, so I was oblivious till I saw ALL THE SMOKE when they moved the cardboard box sitting on their new electric stove top that Nancy had accidentally flipped on while setting the box down! (Much worse than the pizza box incident at Big Cedar.) Within seconds, the smell of smoke was strong and the smoke alarm was LOUDLY going off... (so that's in good working order). They opened doors to let the smoky air out, then there was a mini panic when they were worried Loki had gotten out front with all the doors wide open! Nancy was apologetic and Sarah looked like she was about to cry, and I was watching the smoke coming off the charred box and taking mental notes bc I knew she'd be able to laugh about it later! lol
Anyway, they obviously found the dog... and the box never caught fire... and the alarm calmed down soon enough... and nothing inside the box was ruined (besides the paper wrapped around some of it). So major crisis averted, but it was fairly entertaining - for me, at least! For Sarah, it looked more like the icing on the cake of a stressful moving weekend.
While Steve and Sarah took the U-Haul back and David went home to take a nap, Nancy and I worked on the living room, the table and chairs, the kitchen drawers, etc. Then Nancy went to get food from her house while I unloaded the clothes from my car. She baked some ginger snap cookies (YUM!) and three-way chili, all of which was awesome! When Steve and Sarah got back, I helped them make up their bed, then we all had dinner together...
And here's a pic to document their first dinner in their new house, because I'm cheesy like that! =)
For the record, repeatedly walking three flights of stairs in cold weather, standing in a smoky room, lifting heavy boxes and furniture, and being around the moving-day dust and dog hair is not what I would recommend to anyone trying to recover from a cold. Sarah told me it sounded like I was drowning in snot during our drive to the house. lol But I knew I had Sunday to rest and recover, and I'm glad I was able to be there for all of the above!! ❤
Congrats to Steve and Sarah on their new home - I already have some good memories there and look forward to making more! =)
