Well, I've spent nine hours with T-Swift this weekend, and I. regret. nothing. lol
She announced late Wednesday that she was opening up Thursday showings. Triston had plans with a friend on Friday, so we switched our movie time to Thursday night... due to the last-minute notice, it was a very light crowd at the MWC Warren, but we had center balcony seats and they handed out 8x10 posters along with friendship bracelets to everyone who came that night, so that was fun! =)
Friday was our original group plan, but it didn't end up working out for T-man or K-Faith. But I had that night set aside for it, and I knew in my heart that nothing can quite beat opening night vibes... oooh, I was not wrong!
Driving up to the theater, I immediately felt giddy seeing so many girls and women all dressed up... glitter and sequins and T-Swift t-shirts and fancy dresses and lots of sparkly pink and heart-hands group poses. =)
Walking in, I noticed that they were selling Eras-themed popcorn buckets and cups (didn't get one before they sold out that night, but got it today).
Anyway, the previews were tailored to the crowd, the first one including T-Swift's music, and the second was for Trolls 3 and began with, "SWIFTIES, get ready for your next musical celebration!" lol
It was an Imax movie at Moore Warren with a very full crowd, and I was seated between two other adult women who also knew all the words to every song... FUN! The countdown clock came on, and several people literally screamed, then started a loud countdown with it... definite concert-level vibes. lol
There were several young girls that went down to the front of the theater and stood for the entire 3 hours, dancing, singing, and waving their phones and glowsticks... I loved it! When Taylor held up her signature heart-hands during Fearless, 90% of the movie crowd (myself included) did the same. It was nonstop singing along, and there were one or two slower songs where we swayed with our phone flashlights on. It was all a delight to my Swiftie soul. Like, these are my people. lol
T-Swift at her movie premiere, a screenshot as she started the 1989 Era, and a friendship bracelet sized for a preteen fan! lolol
After talking about it at our Gaillardia brunch today, Miss K and I made a last-minute plan and went for Round 3 at Quail Springs this afternoon! Fun times seeing it with her and catching her reactions to certain parts and others in the crowd. =) (*We're going again next weekend with some of her friends and will dress up and get better photos then!!)
Her sparkly fringe dress in Fearless, her pink guitar in Lover, the fireworks over SoFi stadium at the end of the concert, and one of the songs where people gradually started waving the phone flashlights (hence, the theater being oddly bright).
Her sparkly blazer and boots in The Man, and her evening gown for Enchanted (Miss K's favorite song)!
They end it with friendship bracelets for the credits, along with videos of fans at the concert and a few concert bloopers.
She sings her favorite songs from every album. It is produced and marketed brilliantly, along with everything else T-Swift ever does! And it's super fun from start to finish! ...It makes me happy that Tman and Kyndal Faith are fans, as well! But seeing it by myself on Friday was honestly the most fun, if only for the excitement of that crowd!
What I wore vs. what I should've worn. lol (Each time I saw it, it was a last-minute plan without time to change.)
“As a single woman in her 30s with no children, my life is sometimes seen by others as stagnant or empty. It’s an untrue assessment, but one that’s pervasive still… Patriarchy looks first at how a woman is related to others, typically men, to determine who she is. Swift is also an unmarried, childless woman in her 30s, and her Eras tour takes seriously the life changes, interests, milestones, and identifications that are often dismissed or overlooked. I appreciate that Taylor Swift’s eras offer women other markers of growth and identity beyond getting married and/or having children.” ~Juliette Holder
That feels true for me - the power of reinvention and celebrating who you've been through each stage of life feels important and healing in a culture that pretends men are the highest prize a woman can attain. Our values don't align perfectly, but I am so here for Taylor's massive, unprecedented success! She is obviously not as vocally gifted as someone like Celine Dion or Carrie Underwood, but she writes all her own songs, so people CONNECT with her lyrics in a very different way while listening to them... and you have a far better chance of singing along well since the notes are more attainable. She shows great vulnerability, fierce courage, and gritty resilience, which are always qualities I admire. From one era and musical genre to the next, I am a fan of her music and of her. ❤
It all started on my 25th birthday when I first got into Love Story (HERE)... that classic song is still one of my favorites, although it's a pretty long favorites list now, and I love that her whole vibe has become more strong and joyfully independent. Still, hearing everyone sing that bridge together was awesome and fun, so I'll leave you with that... until I join the Swifties for round four next weekend! ;-)
