Happy Friday, friends, and Happy Birthday-Eve to me! lol Today marks the last day of my 30s, which feels so surreal. This has been my favorite decade so far, and I hope to say the same about my 40s in 2034.
In my self-focused thoughts, the number 40 feels daunting, and this milestone marker heightens my awareness of some unmet desires and dreams. HOWEVER, 40 is also a Biblically significant number... in Scripture, 40 often indicates a period of trial or faith testing, closely followed by God fulfilling a promise, bringing "new life, new growth, transformation, a change from one great task to another."
(The Genesis flood lasted 40 days, then God instated the rainbow covenant. Moses fasted 40 days, then he received the 10 Commandments. The Israelites wandered 40 years, then they entered the Promised Land. Goliath taunted Israel 40 days, then David defeated him. King David reigned through 40 years of battle, then Solomon stepped into a peaceful reign and built the temple. Jesus fasted 40 days, then He began His public ministry. Jesus rose to live on earth for 40 more days, then He ascended to Heaven. After 40 days of prayer and fasting for Lent, Christians celebrate Easter Sunday. Women are typically pregnant for 40 weeks, and then they give birth. Okay, that last one isn't Bible-specific, but it's clearly another time God chose the number 40 for welcoming new life.)
All that to say, tomorrow marks a fresh start moving toward a brand new season. I am grateful for God's patient love, goodness, and mercy... feeling expectant and hopeful about what He has in store. And I'm deeply thankful for a growing sense of purpose and for the friends and family who surround me and enrich my life with great memories and love! (I would appreciate your prayers as I press toward new life, growth, and transformation).
Cheers to 40 years!! ;-)
❤
