Today = my blog title meaning & why I blog.
"Let there be light" = the first four words directly spoken by God in the Bible, the words that started the process of creating this world as we know it!! I don't believe God does anything accidentally, and I love the power and majesty and purpose in those words! I think it's cool that He did not create the sun, moon, and stars until day four... so He was the only source point of light in the beginning, just as it will be in heaven.
The Bible also talks about Jesus being the light of the world and about His light shining through our lives, so the dual meaning is to let Jesus in and let His light and truth overcome the darkness inside you and around you. It's a good reminder for me to turn to Him when things feel dark, as well as a good reminder that I'm called to be a light in a dark world.
"And God said, 'Let there be light,' and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness." ~Genesis 1:3-4
"This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in Him at all." ~1 John 1:5
"In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind." ~John 1:4
"Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." ~Matthew 5:16As for why I blog, the reasons are many... I love having this record of the many quotes, verses, memories, people, places, struggles, growth, healing, etc. that have shaped my life. I enjoy writing and having a place to do that where it doesn't feel nearly as intimidating or serious as writing a book, it doesn't need to be perfect or polished, and it can uniquely reflect my personality and moods with different pictures, fonts, colors, songs, Flipagram slideshows, backgrounds, etc. As a single woman who has lived alone for the majority of the last 11 years, this gives me an outlet - a way to say what I need to say without feeling obnoxious or draining to my friends or family - they can read if and when they want to, or they can skip it, but either way, simply pressing "Publish" gives me the sense of feeling heard and seen and valued. So I'm thankful for that, too!
