6 ~ Admiration

The Top Three Qualities I Admire in People:

1. Resilience ~ There is a huge difference in people who project a strong persona and fight to be seen as tough and intimidating versus people who possess a hard-earned inner strength of spirit and the wisdom and grace that come along with it. I admire people who have been tested, who have known heartache and loss, who had every natural reason to give up but fought their way through the worst and darkest parts of life and came out stronger and wiser and closer to God. That is who I want to be around and who I want to be.

2. Kindness ~ This quality made the list both times. You are never too important to be kind to people, and it can make all the difference. I admire people who prioritize the small acts of service and genuine kindness, thoughtful people who go out of their way to be helpful and encouraging. I admire people who are kind to themselves and kind to others.
That is who I want to be around and who I want to be.

3. Purity of Heart ~ Reading Little Women strengthened this desire in me. I understand and love the fact that God cares more about our inner life and heart motives than our behavior and appearance. Substance matters far more than image to Him, and that is both refreshing and challenging. There are a lot of areas where I look the part and match up with modern society's current definition of a good Christian, but I'm not meeting the true standard set forth in God's Word.  It's a tall order to keep your heart pure and uncontaminated in our world today - in what you watch, listen to, think, say, and do. To keep your heart set apart for God and pursuing what really matters. I admire people who strive to be virtuous and pure, to confess and repent and live with a clean heart and conscience before God and others.
That is who I want to be around and who I want to be.

"Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you."  ~James 1:27
