Today's tribute is to Lorelai and Rory, also known as The Gilmore Girls!
Fictional characters, yes, but they're two of my favorites. lol
At first, I mainly identified with Rory (especially since I was her age and going through high school and college while the show was actually on the air). She is smart, serious about school, quiet, witty, strong in her beliefs, loves to read, loves movies and junk food, chose golf as her school sport, would never ever go camping, and her mom is one of her closest friends! She even freaked out on her first night at college and had her Mom stay with her a while. So we have a lot in common... if only I also shared the high metabolism that easily burns off all the junk food. lol
Personally, I think Alexis Bledel is gorgeous, and Rory always had good hair and classy fashion sense. Rory's main goal in the show is to become a journalist... not my main goal, but I am a big fan of writing! :) And while she has several good qualities, she is also flawed and real... she's insecure, does not handle criticism well, and toward the end of the show, she majorly compromises her values for a stupid guy. :(
(The Dance Marathon... where Rory and Jess finally get together -- still one of my favorite episodes!)
Lorelai and Luke = perfect personalities and a fun relationship to watch as it develops.
The town of Stars Hollow, with all its quirky characters and troubadours and small town events, is something that I love while watching the show, but would likely hate in real life!
Luke's nephew, Jess, is by far my favorite boyfriend of Rory's. Strange, since he's actually a jerk most of the time, but he's a bad boy character who has a painful past and more depth and passion than the other guys she dates, and something about him is just very attractive!
In my mind, they get together after the show ends... thankfully, the writers left that open, as Rory said no thank you to the marriage proposal from Logan at the end of the show. (below)
(I really cannot stand Logan on this show. Arrogant, arrogant, arrogant. And untrustworthy.
Get out, get out now!)
The Gilmores struggle to communicate well and will never see eye to eye on certain issues, but Lorelai's mom and dad are there for every big event in Rory's life. (And Emily does remind me a bit of Babah). And for any major crisis or celebration, they always pull together regardless of their disagreements, and I love that.
Ahhh, this show makes me wish I was a coffee drinker! They're so very cute drinking their coffee at Luke's every day. The pilot episode (top pic) ended with 32-year-old Lorelai and 16-year-old Rory chatting at Luke's Diner, and so did the final episode of the show (middle) eight years later. Love that! :)
Very interesting/ironic that they ended the show with Rory going to work as a journalist on the campaign of Senator Barack Obama. I had no idea who he was the first time I saw that episode, but wow, I'm up to speed now! Anyway, I love these characters and the heart of their relationship!
Hooray for the Gilmore Girls!
And this Shania song = my song of the week! Love it.
If only I had a video to go along with all my tributes. :)
