25 - Mistakes

What Mistake or Failure are You Grateful For?

Exchanging grief for glory, or receiving beauty for ashes, you might say.

This is another one I've thought about a lot.  I'm grateful for all the big and small ways that God is a God of REDEMPTION.  He sustains us and He uses all our mistakes, poor choices, defeats, and failures -- they all work together for good toward His ultimate plan (for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose).

In my life timeline, things God has redeemed and used for good include my homeschool year (when I became friends with Rachael's classmates and felt less alone), Bells Palsy (healing and empathy), the JMM letter + the faith crisis that followed it (to gain wisdom and a more personal walk with God), family and friendship drama (for differentiation and relying on God more deeply), the Malori emails (better understanding ambiguous grief + wisdom on boundaries and attachment styles), the failed IUIs (building relational trust and sticking with the graduate school dream).  Moving to Tulsa to chase after Josh - God redeemed that and used it to grow me up in many ways.  There are so many other examples of places where God led me and guided me through things I didn't understand or see clearly at first... the 2008 scavenger hunt group with Chet Lee and Sarah Elizabeth, the move last year, Colorado Christian, etc.  And as I'm getting into counseling, I feel very aware that no life experience I've had will be wasted - it all matters for connection and helping others.  We serve a very good and kind God.  He gives beauty for ashes, strength for fear, gladness for mourning, and peace for despair!  ❤
