Something Worth Fighting For

Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it.
Prone to leave the God I love.
Here's my heart, Lord, take and seal it.
Seal it for Thy courts above!
~Come Thou Fount

I am crazy into Harry Potter lately, and I'm borrowing this blog title from the end of the Order of the Phoenix movie - (no spoilers here, Laura). ...We are fighting a vicious, crafty, condescending enemy who wants to destroy us, and the battle can be truly exhausting. And the losses we face can be excruciating. There are times when it's difficult to see clearly or understand what's happening, times when we feel insignificant and believe our role is inconsequential. Times when giving up sounds pretty good and we try to convince ourselves we don't care. But to quote Harry, we have something our enemy doesn't have: something worth fighting for. We understand the Way to eternal life, and we're surrounded by people who are under the lies of the enemy seeking to conceal that from them. We have the armor of God and the power of prayer. We have a Savior who died for us and we have love and forgiveness, and we have the hope of eternal life and love and restoration! We have Jesus alive in heaven praying for us and people we love in heaven cheering us on... Our choices here matter deeply!  The spiritual world is at war, and our hearts are the target. No matter what comes against us, we can choose faith and life and light. We can fight to push back the darkness and advance the kingdom of God! All of this is so easy to forget or lose sight of, but it is still very true. And I am thankful for anything and everything that reminds me of that truth (very much including Harry Potter)! ;-)

"The pathway is broken, and the signs are unclear
And I don't know the reason why You brought me here.
But just because You love me the way that You do,
I'm gonna walk through the valley, if You want me to.
'Cause I'm not who I was when I took my first step,
And I'm clinging to the promise You're not through with me yet.
So if all of these trials bring me closer to You,
Then I will go through the fire, if You want me to.
It may not be the way I would have chosen
When you lead me through a world that's not my home,
But You never said it would be easy;
You only said I'd never go alone.
So when the whole world turns against me and I'm all by myself,
And I can't hear You answer my cries for help,
I'll remember the suffering Your love put You through,
And I will go through the valley, if You want me to!"
