Today = my favorite childhood toys! =)
My childhood memories -- the ones I think about most often -- don't involve many toys. I remember certain books Grandad and Mom and Dad would read to us, lots of swimming in our pool, playing in the sandbox, going to the "Sucker-Slide Park," making smiley-face cakes and cookie dough, sooo many cheesy fun games we made up, playing board games, etc. I'm sure there were toys I loved, but most of them didn't stick in my memory. Here are a few that did:
1. Gretchen, my redhead Cabbage Patch doll! lol (The pic isn't my doll, but a lookalike.) Rach had a blond Cabbage Patch girl named Sarah... and back when we shared a room with a lovely purple canopy bed, we would tell each other made-up stories about our busy days raising our "kids," Gretchen and Sarah. lol So I don't have many memories of actually playing with Gretchen, but more making up fun stories about being a mom and talking about that as we drifted off to sleep! =)
2. Skipper, the "cool teen sister of Barbie!" I remember being a big fan of Skipper because I felt like she was less popular than Barbie, and I've always liked to root for the underdog. lol
3. Lil' Miss Makeup doll! What better way to learn the importance of subtle, well-blended makeup skills. lolol
4. Checkers! I'm not sure this counts as a toy since it's technically a game, but it was definitely one of my favorites as a kid!!
5. Chutes and Ladders! Another kids board game I loved back in the day - (I would always pick this, and Rach would always pick Candy Land!)
6. Polly Pocket! I can't imagine this was that much fun to play with, but the happy pink color and the tiny world inside the heart-box made it a memorable toy for me! =)
7. Mimi the bear! Grandad bought me a soft stuffed bear the day I was born that I later called "Mimi" for reasons unknown. (We still have the bear, but I don't have a picture of her - if I take one eventually, I'll come back and post it here.) Again, no solid memories of playing with this toy, but it was and still is special to me because of the story that goes with it! ❤
*Honorable mention: Lite-Brite, POGs, hackey sacks, and playing lots of card games!
